The Ferdinand Villard public garden

The park of the Museum of Art and Archaeology, a real  green oasis of quiet, is a place where you can stroll peacefully in its alleyways. The public, rich in rare and exceptional plant life, is the jewel in Guéret's crown.

It was created by the architect Germain Sauvanet in 1905. He opted for garden that is doubles as a walk-through amongst rare species of plants and a French-style garden. The site has a wide variety of impressively tall trees. The well-ordered flower-beds, full of annuals, provides languorous pathways through the many alleyways of trees. There is also a magnificent statue, sculpted by Marthe Baumel-Schwenck, of a kneeling woman above the fountain in front of the museum. And the smallrock-built bridgeover a strip of water.
